What is Hydroxyapatite ?
Hydroxyapatite, also known as hydroxyapatite, is a natural mineralization of calcium apatite (Ca5(PO4)3(OH)). Its molecular formula is Ca5(PO4)3(OH), but it is often written as Ca10(PO4)6(OH)2 to indicate a crystal structure consisting of two molecules. Hydroxyapatite is a pure end element containing hydroxide in apatite. OH- ions can be replaced by fluoride, chloride, or carbonate ions to form fluoropapatite or chloropapatite. Hydroxyapatite, HAP for short, is the most widely used crystalline phase of calcium phosphate. Calcium phosphate is the main mineral component of vertebrate bones and teeth, in calcium phosphate, hydroxyapatite is the most thermodynamically stable crystalline phase of calcium phosphate in body fluids, and most similar to the mineral part of human bones and teeth. The ratio of calcium to phosphorus in hydroxyapatite is affected by the synthesis method, and its composition is complicated when the ratio of calcium to phosphorus is not fixed.
