What is Baicalin?Baicalin is a kind of flavonoid compound extracted from the root of Scutellaria baicalensis, which is a light yellow powder with bitter taste at room temperature. It is insoluble in methanol, ethanol, acetone, slightly soluble in chloroform and nitrobenzene, almost insoluble in water, soluble in hot acetic acid. It shows green colour when met with ferric chloride and produces orange precipitate when met with lead acetate. When dissolved in alkali and ammonia, it shows yellow colour at the beginning, and soon turns into black brown colour. |
