What is Inositol ? Inositol, also known as cyclohexanol, hexahydroxycyclohexane, cyclohexanol, carnosine, and noninositol, belongs to one of the B vitamins. Due to the different orientation of the hydroxyl group relative to the ring plane, there are 9 isomers, among which 7 are non-optically active and 2 are optically active (left-handed and right-handed). It exists in free or combined form in all biological tissues in nature. It is a common component in animal and plant cells. It can be synthesized by digestive tract microorganisms and participate in carbohydrate and lipid metabolism in the body.

Function Of Inositol

In animals, it is mainly in the form of phosphatidylinositol, which is most abundant in brain, heart and skeletal muscle.
The plant mainly exists in the form of inositol phosphate, and can combine with calcium, zinc, iron and other insoluble compounds,
interfere with its digestion and absorption. When inositol is lacking in animal diet, hair shedding occurs and affects development.
Inositol is related to intracellular calcium metabolism, and its triphosphate derivatives can be released from lipid complexes after
cell stimulation, acting as a second messenger, mobilizing intracellular calcium ions and regulating many cellular activities, such
as secretion, metabolism, photoconduction and cell division.
