What is Methimazole ?

 Methimazole is an imidazole antithyroid drug rather than a hormone drug. Commonly known as tabazole,
methimazole and methithiazole on the market, it is mainly used for the treatment of hyperthyroidism. By
inhibiting the peroxidase system, it blocks the synthesis of thyroxine (T4) and triiodothyronine (T3). Reduce
the level of thyroid irritant antibody in blood circulation, restore the function of inhibitory T cells to normal,
suitable for a variety of factors caused by hyperthyroidism.

Application & Function of Methimazole 

As with other drugs (propyl thiouracil), there are some adverse reactions during administration. These include
adverse hematological reactions, mainly granulocytosis, arrest or impairment of hematopoietic function, throm
bocytopenia, prothrombinemia or factor VII reduction; Long-term drug use may also lead to liver damage, including
cholestatic jaundice and toxic hepatitis. Other skin reactions such as hair loss, itching, drug rash, dermatitis, lupus
erythematosus, and some other rare adverse reactions. Methimazole also prolongates prothrombin time and
increases serum alkaline phosphatase, aspartate aminotransferase (AST) and alanine aminotransferase (ALT),
as well as blood bilirubin and blood lactate dehydrogenase. Therefore, patients should have regular blood tests
during the period of medication to detect liver function and peripheral blood white blood cell count.
