Cholic acid is a host and microbiome related metabolite. It is a colorless flake or white crystalline powder that can regulate host immunity and microbial virulence. When cholic acid is synthesized in the host, it is secreted into the gut, and further metabolized by microorganisms into a variety of primary and secondary cholic acids, which have been found to play roles in host immune regulation, antibacterial and other aspects. This product is found in the bile of cattle, sheep and pigs. It is colorless flake or white crystalline powder. It's kind of bitter, but it's kind of sweet when you taste it. Mp198ºC, the specific curl (c=0.6, ethanol) is +37°. 1g of cholic acid is soluble in about 300ml of ethanol or acetone, 7ml of glacial acetic acid, and very little in water.
